1957 Ford FORD FAIRLANE 500 SKYLINER RETRACTABLE
1957 Ford FORD Fairlane 500.
This Skyliner today looks just as fresh and exciting as it did a half-century ago.
This famous Ford is a solid rust-free example, this Skyliner was treated to a complete mechanical and cosmetic restoration. It has been finished in a popular color combination of Inca Gold with a contrasting Colonial White roof; it is trimmed in original white vinyl with black Airweave vinyl inserts. Under the hood is the upgraded 312 cid Thunderbird V-8 engine with 245 horsepower; the largest displacement offered in a Ford for that season. Special assembly lines were needed for these cars, and the Dearborn plant, where this car was produced, was one of the most efficient and highest quality facilities in the company.
Other accessories include the AM radio, Magic-Aire Heating and Defrosting, padded instrument cluster, and even a day-night rearview mirror to aid in nighttime driving. Adding to the sparkle and shine of the exterior is a set of Kelsey Hayes chrome wire wheels with Coker wide-white radial tires. This car is a dream to drive and that as designed, the fold-back hardtop roof works every time, and that the weather-stripping is all fresh and supple, creating a weather-tight comfortable passenger compartment when the top is in the up position.
Among the most desirable of all collector cars from the 1950s, the Ford Skyliner Retractable Hardtop is near the top of the list. This example presents an excellent opportunity to acquire a car that will be fun to own, powerful enough to drive on a modern highway, and still create amazement to those who see this mechanical marvel go into its scene stealing act of turning into the ultimate Hideaway Hardtop.
